First Responders
BACKING THE BLUE (RED! CAMO!)
One of the greatest experiences and honors I’ve had in my life is that of being a police chaplain. Very few citizens of our nation understand the life, struggles, and experiences of first responders. And even less understand how common psychological trauma is among these great men and women of law enforcement, fire and rescue, EMS, military, and emergency room doctors.
Murder, suicide, drug overdose, child abuse, elderly abuse, combat injuries and trauma, undercover agent stress, mafia hitmen, fatal car accidents, homelessness, mental illness and more are all very familiar areas of my personal experience before, during, and after my active service as a law enforcement chaplain
As a chaplain, I received professional training from the International Conference of Police Chaplains regarding:
• Peer: Support, Counseling, & Debriefs
• Critical Incident Trauma
• Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Grief Processing
• First Responder Self-Care
• Stress & Depression
• Substance Abuse
• Suicide & Suicidal Ideation
As a peer support team member I co-chaired dozens of critical incident debriefings. I’m is a member of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and am devoted to supporting first responders.
EMDR Therapy
I am a vocal advocate for the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapeutic treatment for traumatic experiences and PTSD (Types 1 & 2). I am not a EMDR therapist, but if you have serious trauma or diagnosed PTSD, I will connect you with a certified and effective practitioner. I’ve personally witnessed first responders go from PTSD disabled to completely recovered in a matter of months. My own family members have benefitted from EMDR therapy as well.
